The World’s Largest Swimming Pools
world's largest swimming pools

People love swimming. It’s one of the most popular sports in the United States, and it’s one that anyone around the world can participate in with the help of a pool. One of the best things about swimming is that it can be a solitary or social activity. When you want to swim with friends, family, or even strangers, there are places and ways you can do that. Some organizations and businesses are so dedicated to helping people swim together that they’ve created some huge swimming pools. They ended up building some of the world’s largest swimming pools.

Where are they, how big are they, and can anyone just swim in them? If you’re looking to make a stop around the world to see some of the largest pools ever built, we have a few spots you might be interested in. If you’d rather be in a pool of your own this spring, or in a swim spa even sooner, contact the experts at Aqua Leisure Pools and Spas.

The Piscine Nakache in Toulouse, France

This swimming pool is not only one of the biggest but one of the oldest as well. It covers an expansive 1.8 acres, or an astounding 78,408 square feet. You can swim in it, but we must warn you, it may take some time to reach the other side!

Initially created in 1930, it’s on an island in the middle of a river near Toulouse in France. Surrounded by fine art deco architecture, it makes for a romantic hot spot for tourists and locals. Since this is a public pool, they also supply shower rooms for visitors. It’s a complete aquatic experience.

MahaSamutr Country Club & Luxury Villas, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand

The next largest pool doesn’t have its own name, but it’s located at an esteemed country club in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand. This country club has a sprawling lagoon that its guests and members can swim in that’s even larger than the Piscine Nakache in France. Since it’s not as old, it doesn’t have as much history, but the sight of it makes it worth visiting and swimming in.

Unlike other large swimming pools, it’s made with an assortment of activities in mind. You can compete in water sports, canoeing, and kayaking at your leisure.

San Alfonso Del Mar, Algarrobo, Chile

On another continent, the second-largest known pool in the world is at the San Alfonso Del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile. It’s so large that it would be more accurate to call it a lagoon than a pool. The pool covers a staggering 20 acres, making it almost 20 times the size of the Piscine Nakache in France. For context, this is the length of 20 Olympic swimming pools.

Unlike other pools, it borders close to the Pacific Ocean, so it actually utilizes filtered seawater. You get the skin benefits of salt water, with the warmth of a regulated pool.

Citystars Resort, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

Last but not least, if you want to swim in the world’s largest swimming pool, you need to go to the Citystars resort in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. It’s the largest swimming pool in the world by nearly 4 acres. At 1,042,000 square feet, and surrounded by a world-class resort, you have all that you need in the middle of this desert. This pool is so large that you could potentially get lost in it. Multiple competitive events can be held in this pool without any of them crossing into the other.

Get Your Own Pool From Aqua Leisure Pools & Spas

These pools are big, grand, and awe-inspiring, but they’re not in your backyard – they’re not even in the United States. You can’t go swim in them any time you want, and often, isn’t it better to have something you can use at any time than something you have to save up for, only to see once?

Instead of trying to focus on a trip to the largest swimming pools in the world, why not consider getting a pool of your own? If you plan ahead, it can be ready the second it’s warm enough in the spring season. If you want to swim even earlier than that, hot tubs and swim spas can be used all year round. Hot tubs are mainly for relaxation, but you can swim and get your exercise in at a swim spa.

So you can swim anytime that you want from the comfort of your home, consider a pool, a hot tub, or a swim spa. If you’re unsure of what brands and models are the right fit for you, the experts at Aqua Leisure Pools and Spas are here to help. Contact us today.
